A Unicorn?

These are interesting times.  With rare disease on the rise, there are now 7,000 rare diseases, which means that 10% of the population has or will have a rare disease.

In medical school theres an ideology; if you hear hoofbeats, most likely it’s a horse…

Yes, a horse… but sometimes, its a ZEBRA… a zebra is someone with a rare disease, anything that takes a lot of extra effort to diagnose… Then, we consider, what is beyond that?  It’s so rare, it’s MYTHICAL, thus, the unicorn.

Just because something is rare, doesn’t mean, it doesn’t exist.  There is a fine line of what makes you feel human and inhuman.  As one of the marginalized patients, with rare, complex, allergic, autoinflammatory illnesses, I relate.  I’m walking this walk, next to you, you are not alone!  I know you feel alone, hopefully you will realize your uniqueness can be extraordinary and powerful, which means you in for a BIG FIGHT, but together, we’re stronger, together, we are, “Unicorn Strong”

I see the world being slowly transformed into a wilderness; I hear the approaching thunder that, one day, will destroy us too. I feel the suffering of millions. And yet, when I look up at the sky, I somehow feel that everything will change for the better, that this cruelty too shall end, that peace and tranquility will return once more.
